Iran war will ‘get wrapped up soon’, Trump says

US President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran will end soon, but has not outlined a timeline or explained how the conflict would be brought to a close.

Speaking to Kansas City radio station KCMO on Friday, October 30, Trump said Washington wanted guarantees that Tehran would never acquire a nuclear weapon.

“It’s going to get wrapped up soon,” he said.

Trump also predicted that petrol prices would decrease once the conflict ended. He rejected responsibility for starting the war, accusing Iran of pursuing an aggressive policy for years and killing many Americans.

His remarks came ahead of the November 3 US midterm congressional elections. Trump said the United States would not launch strikes against Iran before the vote.

In recent weeks, he has repeatedly suggested that Washington and Israel would soon “finish the job” in Iran, without clarifying whether this would involve diplomatic negotiations or further military action.

Qatari delegation arrives in Tehran

A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday morning for meetings with Iranian officials, according to Iranian news agency reports.

The discussions were expected to focus on bilateral relations and regional developments amid continuing tensions over the conflict.

CENTCOM chief says IRGC no longer present in Strait of Hormuz

US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Admiral Brad Cooper said Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces were no longer present in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global oil shipments.

Cooper said he had visited American troops in the Middle East this week and witnessed oil tankers navigating the strait.

He also said US forces had removed Iranian sea mines and remained on high alert to protect freedom of navigation.

According to Cooper, Gulf partners had helped facilitate the movement of more than 1.5 billion barrels of oil since the summer.

However, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy reported an incident involving two oil tankers, accusing them of attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz through an unauthorised route.

The announcement highlighted continuing maritime tensions in the strategic waterway.
