New Delhi: Anvay Dravid and Aaryavir Sehwag, sons of former India batters Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, were on Friday, October 30, picked in India’s 15-member squad for the ACC Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup in Muscat next month.

The junior selection committee kept Lakshya Raichandani as captain, while Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan stays on as vice-captain.

The tournament will be played in the Omani capital from November 5 to 14. India start against Nepal on November 6 and take on Pakistan two days later.

Both Anvay and Aaryavir were rewarded for heavy scoring in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, the national one-day tournament for under-19 players, which ended recently.

Runs behind the picks

Anvay, 17, is a wicketkeeper-batter from Karnataka. Earlier this month, he hit 151 off 100 balls againstGujarat, setting up a chase of more than 300.

He is India’s first-choice keeper, with Rajat Baghel as the second gloveman in the squad.

Anvay ended the one-day leg of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in July with 87 off 67 balls against the hosts at Hambantota. He then made 38 and 9 in two one-dayers against Australia.

His elder brother Samit was named in India’s under-19 squad for a home series against Australia in 2024 but was ruled out with an injury.

Aaryavir, 19, plays for Delhi. He is a top-order batter, like his father, and also bowls the odd leg-spinner.

He made 173 off 143 balls against Chandigarh in Vizianagaram during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. Against Australia’s under-19 side, he scored 28, 47 and 34 in the one-day series.

Unfinished business against Pakistan

India will also be looking to set the record straight against Pakistan.

Pakistan won last year’s edition in Dubai, beating India by 191 runs in the final on December 21. Opener Sameer Minhas hit 172 as Pakistan made 347 for eight. India were then bowled out for 156 in 26.2 overs.

That loss came a week after India had beaten Pakistan by 90 runs in the group stage.

Group and format

India are in Group A with Pakistan, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Group B has Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia.

The top two teams from each group will go through to the semi-finals.

India U-19 squad: Lakshya Raichandani (captain), Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan (vice-captain), Aaryavir Sehwag, VK Vineeth, Kushagra Ojha, Arjun Rajput, Manal Chauhan, Anvay Dravid (wicketkeeper), Rajat Baghel (wicketkeeper), V Yashveer, Aryan Savsani, Mohit Ulva, Kavya Patel, Shavin Vinod, Ishan Sood.
