Miyapur land auction puts Revanth Reddy’s priorities under scanner

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s contrasting positions and priorities on the sale of government lands have once again come under scrutiny following his announcement to auction 550 acres at Miyapur.

On Friday, soon after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict in favour of the State government over the land, Revanth Reddy announced that the government would auction the 550 acres.

The announcement drew strong criticism from various sections, particularly SC, ST and BC communities. The Chief Minister had repeatedly expressed helplessness over the availability of government land for distribution to these communities.

In August 2025, after laying the foundation stone for the Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud memorial at Tank Bund, Revanth Reddy had said that the government had no land available for allotment to SCs, STs and BCs. In February this year, during the Sevalal Maharaj Jayanthi celebrations, he again said there was no land available for distribution to tribals.
With Miyapur being one of Hyderabad’s prime locations, representatives of these communities are demanding that the land be allotted for their welfare and development needs. They argue that, given the scarcity and rising value of land, it should be used to establish community welfare facilities, including community halls, hospitals and housing for the poor.

The Chief Minister’s priorities are also being questioned in the context of his own demands when he was in the Opposition.
As TPCC president, Revanth Reddy had strongly opposed the sale of government lands, describing them as public assets that should be preserved for future generations. He had argued that the government would need land to build hospitals, schools and even crematoriums in the future.

“If the BRS government sells lands, there will be no land left for the next generations. All these plans should be dropped,” he had demanded.
In contrast to his earlier stand, the Chief Minister is now prioritising the auction of Miyapur lands, following the sale of lands of TGIIC and HMDA.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Revanth Reddy defended the proposed auction, stating that the government wanted to protect the land from encroachments. He said the proceeds would be utilised for welfare and development works.

The builders’ community has also expressed reservations about the government’s decision to sell the land.
While allotment of government land for infrastructure development and social needs was welcome, outright sale could prove counterproductive, a CREDAI Telangana member observed.

The member pointed out that the sale of TGIIC lands at Raidurg had fetched record prices and set a benchmark for land values in the region. The same yardstick could apply to Miyapur, forcing builders to make huge investments in land acquisition. This, in turn, could increase the financial burden on homebuyers, he added.
