Kriti Sanon reveals why female led films struggle in Bollywood

Mumbai: What would a film like Pathaan or Dhurandhar look like with a woman leading the action? Kriti Sanon believes filmmakers should be willing to explore that possibility and back it with an equally big budget.

The actress has called for greater investment in female led films, stressing that women deserve opportunities to headline projects mounted on the same scale as those featuring male stars.

“We should take that risk”

In a quote shared by the Instagram page Bollywood, Kriti referred to Pathaan and Dhurandhar while making a case for bigger budgets for women centric cinema.

“If you make a Dhurandhar or a Pathaan with a female actor put in the same amount of money, it will do well. We should take that risk,” she said.

Her statement puts the focus on the resources filmmakers are willing to commit to female led projects. Kriti’s argument is that giving an actress the same financial backing could help deliver equally strong results.

A call for bigger opportunities

Beyond casting a woman in the lead, the actress’s remarks call for producers to show confidence in such films through their investment.

By drawing a comparison with Pathaan and Dhurandhar, Kriti made her point clear: she wants the industry to take a chance on women headlining films of that scale, with budgets to match.
