Adelaide Strikers have confirmed the signing of Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf for the full KFC BBL|16 season. The 32-year-old will be available throughout the tournament, giving the Strikers a proven pace option alongside their already formidable international recruits.

Rauf arrives having previously represented Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash, where he played 33 matches from 2019 onwards and claimed 56 wickets. His move to Adelaide adds a significant new dimension to the Strikers' bowling attack under head coach Tim Paine.

"We've got a talented group and I'm looking forward to contributing wherever I can to help the team push deep into the finals and compete for a championship," Rauf said as quoted by Cricket Australia.

The Strikers have filled all three of their permitted overseas player slots after signing 13 of their 18 allocated players. England all-rounder Ben Stokes and New Zealander Mark Chapman are the other international recruits, joining a squad that also includes Alex Carey, Mackenzie Harvey, Thomas Kelly, Lloyd Pope, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Tom Straker, Henry Thornton and Jerrssis Wadia.

"Haris (Rauf) is a proven match-winner who has performed at the highest level in international cricket and franchise competitions around the world," adding: "He's one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has the ability to change a game in an instant. We're thrilled to welcome Haris to Adelaide for the entire tournament," said Paine.

What does Rauf bring to the Strikers' pace attack?

Rauf is Pakistan's second-highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals, with 133 dismissals to his name. In BBL|15, he took 20 wickets, equalling his career-best return in a single Big Bash season, and was named in the official tournament team for that edition. He had also made the official tournament team in BBL|09, the same season he took a hat-trick in his very first Big Bash match.

During BBL|15, Rauf shared the Golden Arm award with Gurinder Sandhu, recognising him among the competition's leading pace bowlers. His record across franchise cricket beyond Australia is equally strong: in 19 games spanning the PSL and Major League Cricket with the San Francisco Unicorns in 2026, he collected 22 wickets.

Rauf also delivered one of the standout individual bowling performances on Australian soil in recent memory when he took 5 for 29 at Adelaide Oval in 2024, a return that helped Pakistan secure their first ODI series win in Australia in 22 years. Most recently, he featured in Pakistan's victorious ODI tri-series squad against England and Sri Lanka in October 2026, where he and Shadab Khan put together an unbeaten 89-run tenth-wicket partnership, Pakistan's highest for that wicket in ODI tri-series cricket.

"The Strikers have a strong squad with world-class players like Ben Stokes, Matt Short (Strikers captain) and Mark Chapman, so I'm really excited about the opportunity to play alongside them," said Rauf.

When does Rauf make his Adelaide Strikers debut?

Rauf is scheduled to make his first appearance for the Strikers on December 16 against Sydney Thunder in Canberra. The Strikers, who are BBL|07 champions, will be hoping Rauf's pace and experience help them push into the latter stages of BBL|16.

The Strikers' squad construction also recalls their BBL|15 campaign, when New Zealander Finn Allen featured alongside the group. For BBL|16, the franchise has moved away from that combination and brought in Rauf from the Stars, with Perth Scorchers among the sides they will be looking to challenge across the season.
