Cyberabad CP invokes PD Act against serial drug offender

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr M Ramesh has invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against a habitual drug peddler, Sachin Gangaram Maruti Chavan.
Chavan, a native of Solapur, Maharashtra, has been involved in drug peddling with an intention to earn easy money, police said on Monday, November 2.
He reportedly procures huge quantities of ganja from Andhra Pradesh and Odisha before transporting it across the region. He then supplies it to his associates and drug consumers at exorbitant prices for unlawful financial gain, Commissioner Ramesh said in a release.
According to the police, Chavan has been involved in five drug peddling cases between 2020 and 2026, of which three were registered in Telangana, one in Maharashtra, and the other in Karnataka.
He has also developed a network of associates involved in the procurement, transportation and distribution of Ganja, extending across Telangana and other states, Cyberabad Police said.
The Commissioner invoked the PD Act to prevent him from indulging in such activities.
