B.K. Birla Public School, Kalyan, hosted the Global Youth Summit 2026 on 31 October and 1 November, bringing students into conversation with distinguished diplomats on global cooperation, cultural understanding and the responsibilities of young leaders.

The summit welcomed Cheong Ming Foong, Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Mumbai; Swapnil Thorat, Indian Foreign Service officer; Qin Jie, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China; Wang Jinshen, Consul at the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China; and Ma Zhouchen, Vice Consul at the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China. Their presence and interactions provided students with valuable insights into diplomacy, international relations and cross-cultural understanding.

Cheong reflected on Singapore’s multicultural environment and the role of cultural exchange in diplomacy, emphasising that personal interactions and language help build trust across borders. Thorat drew parallels between scientific research and diplomacy, highlighting the importance of facts, patience and human judgement. Both speakers noted that mutual respect and the warmth of people remain common across cultures.

Addressing the gathering during the closing ceremony, Qin Jie underlined the importance of co-curricular activities in preparing young people for leadership. Speaking about BRICS, he highlighted the shared values of family, community and common prosperity among its member nations. He also encouraged students to understand world affairs, form independent opinions and strengthen communication between the youth of India and China. Referring to cultural links, he noted the interest of students in Chinese language and festivals, as well as shared traditions and values.

The summit offered students an opportunity to look beyond borders and understand how culture, dialogue and informed young minds can contribute to a more cooperative world.
