Karimnagar: A man from Mancherial was arrested on Monday evening on charges of duping an LLB second-year student at Satavahana University and abetting her suicide on campus.

Kothapalli Inspector B Kotesh said that Harikrishna from Srirampur had befriended Dekkali Chandrakala (30) from Shadnagar and later refused to marry her after sexually exploiting her under the guise of love. Chandrakala died by hanging in her hostel room on Sunday.

Police further stated that Harikrishna came into contact with Chandrakala at a computer training centre in 2024. They fell in love and developed a physical relationship. However, he started avoiding Chandrakala after she pressured him to marry her. She ended her life while speaking to him over the phone.

Meanwhile, SU Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Kumar and Registrar Prof Sathish Kumar extended financial aid of Rs 1.50 lakh to Chandrakala’s family on humanitarian grounds. They added that additional monetary assistance of Rs 2 lakh would be given to the family on behalf of the varsity soon, alongside offering an outsourced job to one of the family members.
