Telangana govt admits delay in uniform, student kit distribution; says exercise ‘almost’ complete

Hyderabad: Even as nearly half of the academic year has over, the State government has acknowledged delays in supplying uniforms and student kits comprising essential items to students in government schools and hostels, with officials informing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy that distribution was “almost complete”.
During a review meeting on the distribution of uniforms and student kits in government schools, hostels and residential institutions on Thursday, officials told the Chief Minister that distribution of uniforms and items such as ties, belts, identity cards, shoes, socks, plates, glasses, bowls, mats and school bags was almost complete. They informed him that distribution by certain organisations was about 95 per cent complete.
The status report came even as the academic year was well underway, raising questions about the timely delivery of basic supplies to students. The Chief Minister directed officials to complete the pending distribution without further delay.
Revanth Reddy also asked officials to obtain feedback from students on the quality, colours and designs of uniforms and finalise the options based on the preference of the majority. He directed the departments concerned to prepare standard operating procedures for the next academic year, specifying the list of items to be supplied, tendering and procurement processes, and distribution schedules.
