India on Thursday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed quasi-ballistic missile, Pralay, from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast, marking another milestone in the country's defence capabilities.

Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the short-range surface-to-surface missile can carry conventional warheads, the Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Pralay has a payload capacity of 500-1,000 kg. Following the successful test, the ministry said the missile's induction into the armed forces was imminent.

"With this successful test, the induction of the system has become imminent," the ministry said.
