Expedite probe in POCSO cases: Sajjanar urges govt doctors

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar on Thursday, November 5, urged doctors from government hospitals to expedite the investigation in the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases.

Sajjanar said timely medical examinations and comprehensive medical reports were crucial for investigations and securing convictions in courts.

He expressed concern that delays in receiving medical reports could affect the filing of chargesheets within the prescribed legal deadlines.

Sajjanar stressed the need for better coordination between police and medical officers to ensure that investigations were completed on time.

To improve coordination without disrupting doctors’ duties, the commissioner proposed appointing dedicated police contact personnel at major government hospitals.

“Police liaison officers would also be designated to facilitate the exchange of information between hospitals and investigating teams,” the commissioner said during a coordination meeting with doctors.

He announced plans to establish a WhatsApp coordination group involving Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)-level officers, enabling doctors to raise urgent issues directly with senior police officials and seek assistance.

Expressing concern over the vulnerability of young girls, including those aged 13 and 14, to exploitation and crimes linked to the misuse of social media, the commissioner said that the police were conducting counselling programmes and awareness campaigns in schools to educate students about online safety and personal security.

Medical officers shared their experiences and concerns regarding medico-legal procedures and difficulties encountered during investigations.

The commissioner assured them that their concerns would be reviewed with the police officers concerned and that necessary support would be provided.
