BJP MLA targets SRK over Deepika Padukone’s saffron dress in King

Mumbai: A new film, a new song and a familiar controversy. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are back in the spotlight with King, but the conversation has taken a turn that reminds fans of Pathaan. Once again, the colour of Deepika’s outfit has become a talking point.
Her saffron dress in the song Tu Mil Jaaye has drawn objections from BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi, who has demanded changes to the sequence and warned of nationwide protests. The development echoes the uproar over her look in Besharam Rang ahead of Pathaan’s release.
BJP MLA objects to Deepika’s look
Speaking to Dainik Samachar, Negi criticised the song sequence, alleging that it disrespected Sanatan Dharma. He targeted Shah Rukh Khan, made a communal remark against the actor and demanded that the portion featuring Deepika in saffron be removed.

BJP legislator Ravinder Singh Negi, also known as Ravi Negi, issued a stern demand to Shah Rukh Khan regarding the upcoming film King's musical track Tu Mil Jaaye.

Negi also referred to the earlier Pathaan controversy, saying Hindu organisations had protested then and would oppose the latest sequence too. His remarks have brought a political controversy into the conversation surrounding King’s music.
According to the Free Press Journal, neither Shah Rukh nor Deepika had issued a statement on his remarks at the time of its report.
When Pathaan faced a similar controversy
Ahead of Pathaan’s release in 2023, Deepika’s saffron bikini in Besharam Rang sparked objections from political leaders and religious organisations. Madhya Pradesh’s then home minister Narottam Mishra was among those who criticised the costumes and demanded changes.
Despite the controversy, Pathaan went on to become a blockbuster. Now, with the same lead pair reuniting under director Siddharth Anand, the similarities between the two controversies are hard to miss.
Fans had already spotted the connection
Even before Negi’s remarks, Deepika’s look in Tu Mil Jaaye had prompted social media users to revisit Besharam Rang. Some wondered whether the colour choice was a playful response to the earlier backlash. That, however, remains fan speculation.
Meanwhile, King also features Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan among its ensemble cast. The Siddharth Anand directorial is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 24, 2026.
