Telangana faces investment pressure as Andhra Pradesh targets bigger deals ahead of summits

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments are gearing up for another round of competition to attract investments. However, going by last year’s performance, the Revanth Reddy government appears to be under pressure to improve its investment record.

The pressure has mounted particularly after Reliance Industries Limited Executive Director Anant Ambani urged Andhra Pradesh to treat him as a “Son of Andhra”. He made this appeal on October 2 during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Rayalaseema Global Horticulture Hub, reaffirming his commitment to the State’s growth and development.

In contrast, the Telangana government is facing criticism over companies, particularly those setting up Global Capability Centres (GCCs), choosing other States for their investments.

During the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2025, the Telangana government announced that it had secured investment commitments worth Rs.5.75 lakh crore. However, the Andhra Pradesh government attracted investments worth Rs.13.25 lakh crore against its target of Rs.10 lakh crore.

Despite a year having passed, the Telangana government is yet to disclose details of the investments that have materialised following the Global Summit.

Interestingly, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had specifically directed officials in August to submit a detailed report on the investments attracted and the progress made following the previous edition of the Global Summit.

He had also instructed officials to prepare plans to make further progress in attracting investments. However, there is no information on whether the report has been prepared or, if so, why its findings have not been made public.
The Telangana government has maintained that investments take considerable time to materialise.

On several occasions, Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu has pointed out that several factors, including incentives offered by other States and companies’ financial closures, play a crucial role in translating investment commitments into actual projects.

Against this backdrop, the Telangana government is gearing up to host the second edition of the Global Summit on December 7, 8 and 9 at Bharat Future City. Officials have been instructed to make elaborate arrangements to ensure the successful conduct of the event.

Meanwhile, the 31st CII Partnership Summit will be held from November 11 to 13 in Visakhapatnam. The Andhra Pradesh government is keen on attracting substantial investments, surpassing last year’s performance.
