Two projectiles hit Iran’s Qeshm Island near Hormuz

Two projectiles struck Iran’s Qeshm Island near the strategic Strait of Hormuz early Saturday, November 7, according to Iranian media reports, as the country’s military reported intercepting American drones over the island.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported the projectile impacts, saying no official information was immediately available about possible damage. It added that further details would be released once the incident was confirmed by the relevant authorities.
The official IRNA news agency reported that a US MQ-1 drone had been brought down over Qeshm Island, describing it as the 16th of its kind to be destroyed there. It attributed the interception to a newly developed air defence system operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Separately, state broadcaster IRIB quoted the Iranian army as reporting the destruction of a US MQ-9 drone over the island.
CENTCOM describes situation as relatively calm
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) described the situation around Qeshm Island as “relatively calm”, Al Jazeera reported. A CENTCOM official said the command was aware of reports of explosions but declined to comment further.
Local residents reported hearing an aircraft before the projectiles struck the Suza area of the island. Explosions were also reported near Bandar Khamir, close to the Strait of Hormuz. Their origin remained unclear.
US warns citizens across Middle East
The United States urged its citizens across the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance over the threat of armed attacks by Iranian-supported Houthis and reported Iranian efforts to target US government officials in the region.
The advisory also warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and other travel disruptions.
