Hyderabad: In two separate raids in Alwal, excise officials seized 163 bottles of defence canteen liquor allegedly being sold illegally by two women, whose husbands were suspected of procuring the liquor through defence canteen quotas.

Officials said some retired defence personnel were allegedly purchasing liquor under their own and other beneficiaries’ quotas at subsidised rates and selling it at higher prices through their wives.

In the first case, the Malkajgiri Excise Enforcement team searched the residence of Manyam Nagaprasanna and Ram Anjaneyulu in Saraswathi Nagar. The team seized 96 bottles.

Ram Anjaneyulu was allegedly procuring the liquor, while his wife Nagaprasanna was selling it. Cases were registered against both. Nagaprasanna was arrested and handed over to the Alwal Excise Station.

In another case, a State Task Force-B team raided a house in Soujanya Colony, New Bowenpally and seized 67 bottles of defence liquor from Musimi Lenka (39). She was arrested and handed over to the Alwal Excise Station

The total value of the liquor seized in the two cases was estimated at Rs 2.11 lakh. Excise officials said they were keeping a close watch on the illegal sale of defence canteen liquor in the Alwal area.
