Hyderabad: The Shadnagar police on Saturday, November 7, arrested an accused who targeted locked houses at night and stole gold and silver ornaments.

The complaint was filed by Ramesh, a resident of Eshwar Colony. Earlier, he had travelled with his family to take his ailing maternal uncle to a hospital in Hyderabad. When he returned on October 2, he found that the lock was broken and gold and silver ornaments had been stolen from a cupboard. The Shadnagar police registered a case on his complaint.

According to Shadnagar CI Sitaram, the case was solved using technical evidence. They identified and arrested 32-year-old Jaganath Prabhu.

The suspect has confessed during questioning that he had climbed over the compound wall of the house, broken the locks and a cupboard using an iron rod, and stolen the jewellery.

The police recovered items—including gold earrings, chains, a nallapusala danda (traditional black-bead necklace), and a bracelet—from his possession and remanded him to judicial custody.

A team comprising Shadnagar Inspector Sitaram, Crime DSI Shiva Reddy, Head Constable Ravinder, and Constable Mohan cracked the case. The personnel would be suitably rewarded, said the police.
