Hyderabad: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has served a notice to the Telangana government over the demands of part-time, guest and contract teachers in the state’s gurukul (residential) educational institutions, asking for an action-taken report within 15 days.

NCSC Director G Sunil Kumar Babu issued the notice on Monday, October 26, to the Principal Secretary of the state’s Scheduled Caste Development Department, following a representation from former All India Congress Committee (AICC) member Bakka Judson.

The representation sought recognition for long-serving teachers, along with a minimum time scale, higher remuneration, job security, weightage for their years of service and the immediate release of pending salaries.

In a press note, Judson said the teachers were also seeking enrolment in the state’s Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).

Reply in 15 days, NCSC tells Telangana govt

The NCSC asked the department to send the facts and details of the action taken within 15 days of receiving the notice. If no reply arrives in time, the Commission may use its civil court powers and summon the official to appear in person or through a representative, the notice said.

Judson said the teachers had served the gurukul institutions for years. He urged the government to recognise their service and act immediately to ensure they get justice.
