Bengaluru: A late-night road-rage dispute near Electronics City ended in tragedy when a 25-year-old chef was allegedly dragged for around 150 metres beneath a car and later died of his injuries. Police have arrested three suspects, while a search is under way for the vehicle’s owner.

Ranjith Kumar Sahu, who worked as a cook at a paying guest accommodation in BTM Layout, had travelled to Electronics City on October 21 to meet friends during the Dasara celebrations.

The incident occurred at about 1.50 am when Sahu and his friends were near a road crossing. According to the police, a Maruti Swift Dzire allegedly passed dangerously close to the group. When the youths questioned the occupants, an argument broke out.

The dispute reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation. The occupants then allegedly attempted to flee in the car, during which Sahu became caught beneath the vehicle. He was dragged along the road for nearly 150 metres, sustaining severe injuries.

Sahu was immediately taken to a hospital, but he died despite medical treatment.

Police have arrested Ajay Rabidas, Sajal Namashudra and Bijon Roy in connection with the case. During questioning, the accused allegedly stated that they had consumed alcohol before the incident.

Investigators reportedly could not obtain clear CCTV footage showing the entire incident. They subsequently relied on information from a local roadside shopkeeper and technical evidence to trace and arrest the suspects.

Police are now searching for the car’s owner, who is said to be absconding. Investigators are also working to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine how the confrontation escalated into a fatal incident.

The case highlights the potentially deadly consequences of road rage and reckless driving. Further investigation is under way.
