Kolkata kiss case: Police parade accused with ropes around waists

Kolkata: A day after the father of an 18-year-old boy was given a precarious choice of either shooting his son or walking naked alongside him, triggering widespread criticism in West Bengal, a follow-up video has allegedly emerged showing the Kolkata Police parading the accused with ropes tied around their waists.

Police have not issued an official statement on the incident. When asked about the public parading, a senior police officer said the accused were being taken to the spot to reconstruct the crime scene.

The 18-year-old, his father and his friend were paraded naked and insulted by the family of a 13-year-old girl because the young man was allegedly caught kissing her. The incident occurred on October 25, when the teenagers met with his friend in the Basundhara Park area within Sarsuna police station limits. The girl’s maternal uncle saw them and alerted her father and uncle.

The male members took her away and dragged the 18-year-old and his friend into their house, assaulted them and forced him to inform his father.

The father rushed to the spot and begged them to spare his son. But the attackers assaulted him and threatened to shoot all three dead. “After that, the girl’s family allegedly handed the man’s father a firearm and threatened him with a choice: either to kill his son or walk naked for about 50 meters on the lane outside their home,” police said.

The 13-year-old girl’s father, mother and her maternal uncle have been arrested. Further investigations are on.
