Hyderabad: Osmania University is hosting the FASMI Biennial Meeting 2026, jointly organised by the Federation of Asian Societies for Molecular Imaging (FASMI) and the Molecular Imaging Society of India (MISI), for the first time in India.

The conference, which commenced on Tuesday, attracted around 350 participants, including scientists, clinicians, researchers and industry experts from India and abroad.

Inaugurating the event, OU Vice Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram described the event as an achievement for the OU, noting that earlier editions were held in Taiwan, Australia and Japan.

Emphasising that precision in medical diagnosis and treatment is critical to saving lives, he called for bridging gaps in healthcare facilities and strengthening research, innovation and access to advanced technologies, particularly for cancer and diabetes.

Duke-NUS Medical School Dr. Ann-Marie Chacko highlighted the expanding role of molecular imaging in monitoring treatment responses and advancing personalised healthcare, while encouraging young researchers to pursue global collaborations.

The conference also had a workshop on molecular imaging and AI, featuring a keynote by Dr. Kumarasamy Thangaraj, Director, CCMB, and hands-on training in portable ultrasound technology facilitated by Esaote India NS Ltd. Scientific sessions focused on MRI, Theranostics, Ultrasound, Multimodal Imaging and AI in Medical Imaging.
