Hyderabad: In a move to improve the quality of criminal investigations, Hyderabad Police have set up a Zonal Investigation Branch to handle grave and complex cases separately from routine law and order duties.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar inaugurated the new facility at the Golconda Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police office in Mehdipatnam on Tuesday as a pilot project.

The specialised branch comprises two Detective Inspectors, one Sub-Inspector, one Head Constable and 10 constables. It will focus on serious criminal cases registered within the zone, ensuring that investigations receive sustained attention without being affected by bandobust arrangements and other routine policing responsibilities.

Sajjanar said the team will coordinate with health officials, forensic science laboratories and other relevant departments to strengthen evidence-based investigations and ensure the timely filing of charge sheets. The initiative is also expected to reduce the workload on local police stations, enabling their personnel to concentrate on maintaining law and order and preventing crime.
