Kothagudem: A married woman and an unmarried youth allegedly died by suicide by hanging themselves at a house at Yellandu in Kothagudem district.

It was said that on Monday late evening hours, the locals called police and informed that a foul smell was coming from a house in Dasarigadda area in the town. When the police went to the house; opened the door, found the bodies of the woman Kovvakula Kalyani (34) and youth Telakalapalli Srinivas (22) hanging from the ceiling of the latter’s house in a semi-decomposed state.

According to locals Srinivas, who makes a living by buying and selling old ironware, had been in a relationship with Kalyani, who happens to be his aunt, for the past few months. They left home 18 days ago; reportedly came home for Dasara festival and suspected to have died by suicide three days ago given the decomposed state of their bodies.

A panchayat was held in the presence of the community elders in the past regarding the alleged extra-marital affair between the deceased woman and the youth. They were reportedly summoned for another round of panchayat a few days ago, but did not turn up, the locals said.

Srinivas’ mother Durgamma, who was staying with her eldest son in the town and Kalyani’s husband Salaiah lodged separate complaints with the police regarding the incident. Yellandu CI Suresh and his staff shifted the bodies to the government hospital and launched an investigation into the incident.
