Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A Grama Palana Officer (GPO) was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 22,000 at the Kagaznagar Tahsildar office on Thursday.

Adilabad ACB DSP G Madhu said Srinivas, a GPO of Mosam village, was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe from an applicant in exchange for performing an official favour. The bribe was allegedly sought for submitting a report to higher officials recommending correction of the name of a land title holder and transferring the property to the applicant’s legal heir through succession. A case has been registered against Srinivas.

Srinivas initially demanded Rs 50,000 but later agreed to accept Rs 22,000. The complainant approached the ACB, which laid a trap and arrested the public servant. Srinivas would be produced before a special court for ACB cases in Karimnagar for judicial remand. Investigations have been taken up.

ACB officials advised the public to approach the bureau if any official demands a bribe for performing official duties. Complaints can be made through the toll-free number 1064. Complaints of corruption can also be lodged through WhatsApp (94404 46106), Facebook (Telangana ACB) and X (formerly Twitter) (@Telangana ACB).
