Hyderabad: A class 10 girl died after allegedly getting her period at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel in Siddipet on Thursday, October 29. Her parents and local leaders staged a sit-in protest outside the mortuary at Siddipet Government Hospital demanding an enquiry.

The girl had returned to the KGBV Raghavapur hostel on October 24 after spending the Dasara vacation with her family. Speaking to Siasat.com, Siddipet Rural Station House Officer Navatha said the girl did not inform anyone after getting her period for the first time.

On Wednesday morning, the KGBV staff informed the girl’s parents about her condition and asked them to take her home. The parents said they were busy at the moment and would come the next morning.

The girl’s condition deteriorated by night time, and a teacher again called the parents, asking if they should take her to the hospital. The girl was reportedly admitted to a government hospital but died by morning.

Her family staged a protest outside the hospital on Thursday along with Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy. Reddy alleged negligence on the hostel’s part and demanded compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the bereaved family.

The cause of death is yet to be established. A case has been registered under section 194 (unnatural, accidental, or suspicious deaths) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
