New Maruti Fronx, expected to feature a refreshed exterior, new convenience and safety features, and a new engine, could be launched in early 2027

Following the Maruti Baleno, its closely related crossover, the Maruti Fronx, is set to undergo a facelift. Maruti Suzuki has started testing the new Fronx on public roads, and recently, one of the updated version’s prototypes was snapped parked by the roadside. Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, some changes were revealed from this sighting.

The spy shots suggest that the new Maruti Fronx will have a familiar character, with cosmetic changes limited to a few soft parts. For instance, we can see the radiator grille inserts feature a new design. The split headlamps, which immediately differentiate the Fronx from the Baleno, appear to feature the same design as the current model.

While the current Fronx has a Suzuki logo on the radiator grille, the facelifted version is likely to feature that ahead of the leading edge of the bonnet. The freed-up space should incorporate a radar that, along with a dedicated camera, brings a host of Level 2 advanced driver assistance features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Prevention, Advanced Emergency Braking, High Beam Assist, Vehicle Sway Warning, and Forward Collision Warning.

In addition to Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, rear disc brakes should enhance safety. Unlike the recently spotted test mule of the new Fronx, the current model features drum brakes at the rear. Inside, Maruti Suzuki will likely introduce an upgraded Qi-certified wireless smartphone charger that features an active cooling function. Ventilated front seats should provide enhanced comfort in hot weather, while a Clarion sound system should elevate the audio experience.

The Maruti Fronx’s K12N 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, available in petrol and petrol-CNG variants, will likely be replaced by the Z12E 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine. The new engine should be tuned to produce 61 kW (81.8 hp) and 112.4 Nm of torque running on petrol and 51.3 kW (68.8 hp) and 101.8 Nm of torque running on CNG. A 5-speed manual transmission should be standard.

In the current Fronx, a 5-speed automated manual transmission option is available only with the K12N engine’s petrol variant. In the new Fronx, it should be available in both petrol and petrol-CNG variants of the Z12E engine. The K10C 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine may continue being offered as a more powerful option, along with the same 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission choices.
