A hamstring injury has ended Prasidh Krishna's participation in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand, with the BCCI confirming the squad changes on October 30, 2026. The selectors have determined that Prasidh requires additional recovery time and workload management, ruling him out of the white-ball fixtures entirely.

Prasidh will undergo a Return to Play (RTP) assessment, and if he clears that evaluation, he is in line to join the senior squad for the third four-day game against New Zealand A. That route would give him competitive match time before the two-Test series gets underway. Mohammed Siraj, meanwhile, has been assigned to the India A setup for the four-day fixture beginning October 31, 2026, after which he will also move across to the senior squad for the third four-day game.

Four batters have been added to the India A group for the October 31 fixture: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and Yash Rathod. Nitish Kumar Reddy stays with the senior ODI side for the opening ODI on November 4, 2026, at Eden Park in Auckland, before returning to the India A programme after that match.

Why has India named two separate ODI squads for this series?

The five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is scheduled from November 4 to 15, 2026. Because the India A programme runs concurrently with the senior tour, the BCCI has split the ODI squad into two groups covering different stages of the series.

What is the broader context of the India A programme on this tour?

The India A four-day games against New Zealand A serve as direct preparation for the two-Test series that follows. Basin Reserve in Wellington hosts the first Test from November 19, 2026, while Hagley Oval in Christchurch stages the second from November 27 to December 1, 2026.

Dhruv Jurel captains the India A side for the October 31 fixture and also keeps wicket, with Kumar Kushagra providing the second wicketkeeping option. Siraj's brief stint with India A before joining the senior squad for the third four-day game reflects the BCCI's intent to keep him in rhythm ahead of the Tests. Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Shikhar Mohan, Mukesh Choudhary, Mukesh Kumar and Manav Suthar cover the bowling and all-round roles alongside Smaran, giving the side a balanced look across departments.

India A full squad for the second four-day game vs New Zealand A: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Yash Rathod, Smaran, Dhruv Jurel (C, WK), Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Shikhar Mohan, Mukesh Choudhary, Mukesh Kumar, Manav Suthar, Kumar Kushagra (WK).
