UP Political News: Azam Khan Release Delayed? ED Remand Plea Creates Fresh Legal Hurdle Despite High Court Bail

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's release from jail may face another hurdle despite securing bail from the Allahabad High Court in the case involving possession of two PAN cards. The latest development is linked to an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case concerning alleged financial irregularities in the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University project. The ED had registered an FIR on October 13 at the Azeem Nagar police station in Rampur, accusing Azam Khan and four others of alleged corruption, embezzlement and financial misconduct. According to the allegations, during his tenure as a minister, government contracts and tenders were awarded to certain companies, which allegedly transferred money to the Jauhar University in the form of donations. The accused reportedly include Azam Khan, his chartered accountants and a contractor associated with the companies involved in the transactions. The investigating authorities are examining whether public funds were diverted through these arrangements. In connection with this case, a remand application has been moved, potentially creating another legal obstacle for the Samajwadi Party leader. The Rampur Special MP-MLA Court is scheduled to hear the matter on Monday, November 2, and has directed Azam Khan to appear personally before the court. If the court approves the remand, he may have to seek bail separately in this case, which could further delay his release despite the relief granted by the Allahabad High Court in the PAN card matter. Meanwhile, Azam Khan's son Abdullah Azam is also lodged in Rampur jail. However, according to the latest information shared by reporter Ubaidur Rehman, no pending case requiring fresh bail has currently been identified as an obstacle to Abdullah Azam's release.
