‘High’ on duty: Punjab cop fails dope test at anti-drug drive

Mansa: Amid a major drug crackdown in Punjab, a police officer was caught for substance abuse in a sub-divisional town of Mansa, on Friday, October 30, where a fortnight ago an anti-drug activist was murdered.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sehajpreet Singh tested positive for drugs during the department’s ‘Yudh Nashia Virudh’, and was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Budhlada City police station.
A group of residents allegedly found the ASI in an unstable condition near ITI Chowk, where he was temporarily overseeing the law and order situation due to the ongoing protests.
The reported arrest of a Punjab Police ASI at Budhlada's ITI Chowk for allegedly selling and consuming Chitta raises serious questions on the AAP regime.

A few residents confronted him after seeing his visible unsteadiness and found that he had reportedly consumed drugs. He even had the drugs in his possession. The police promptly arrived at the scene and took the cop to the police station.
Angered by the situation, locals staged a protest and accused Budhlada Market Committee chairman Satish Singla of backing the officer.
Demanding action against the accused cop, the protesters destroyed Singla’s store even as he denied having a connection to the case.
Mansa Senior Superintendent (SSP) Vaibhav Chaudhary said ASI Singh was stationed in Mohali and was present in the area only for temporary law and order duty. After failing a dope test, a case was registered against the officer. However, the SSP confirmed that no drugs were seized from his possession.
