Hyderabad: The HMWSSB on Friday announced that treated water from sewage treatment plants (STPs) would be supplied from November 1 for non-potable uses, with priority given to the GHMC, other municipal corporations, HMDA, government offices, parks, landscaped road medians and other greenery-related requirements.

HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy said green water tankers would supply treated wastewater for industrial, construction, gardening and other non-potable uses.

He directed officials to complete tanker registration and establish filling points at STPs by October 31. Potential users at the Secretariat, MCRHRD, Durgam Cheruvu, Uppal Stadium, IT firms, Hitec City and other locations must be identified. Supply may also be extended to construction companies, subject to quality standards.

Tankers with capacities of 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 litres would be registered and carry Green Water branding. Each tanker must display a warning that the water is not fit for drinking and is meant for non-potable use only.

Bookings will begin on October 31, with registrations, bookings and supply details tracked through the Command Control Centre dashboard. Officials said 56 tankers and nine users had been registered.

Reddy directed officials to increase registrations to between 300 and 400 by the following day. Manual registers must be maintained in case of technical problems.

Four to five tankers will be stationed at each filling point. The Water Board appealed to government departments and other institutions to use treated water for non-potable requirements.
