A 73-year-old Indian woman from Mumbai has won Dirham 100,000 (Rs 25,93,643) through Dear Big Ticket Season 4, an initiative by Abu Dhabi Big Ticket, with plans to use the prize money to support her grandchildren’s education.

Jaya Bhatia, who works from home in recruitment for nursing schools, said the award came at a time when her family needed financial support. Her daughter, also a single mother, is facing difficulties, and Bhatia wants to help ease the burden of raising and educating her children.

Bhatia brought up her daughter on her own, managing family responsibilities while working to provide her with a good education. Drawing on her own experience, she now wants to make sure her grandchildren have the same opportunities and can continue their studies without financial concerns.

Her immediate reaction to the news was one of disbelief and emotion.

“I was completely shocked when I heard the news. I couldn’t hold back my tears because this means so much to me and my family. I feel incredibly blessed and thankful,” she said.

Dear Big Ticket Season 4 announces six winners

The fourth season of Dear Big Ticket has concluded, with six people selected to receive Dh 100,000 each following a public voting campaign.

Unlike conventional raffle draws, Dear Big Ticket is a free social initiative organised by Abu Dhabi Big Ticket. It gives people living in the UAE an opportunity to seek support for personal wishes and life-changing needs.

Applicants aged 18 and above could submit their stories through the initiative’s website, either in writing or through a video lasting up to one minute. The campaign covered five areas: education, healthcare, family reunions, housing and business.

Following the submission process, selected stories were put forward for public voting, with the winners chosen based on the votes they received.
