Popular children’s educator and YouTube star Rachel, widely known as Ms Rachel, has shared the story of Jood Damo, a Palestinian boy who suffered a severe leg injury in an Israeli strike that killed his mother while she was shielding him in Gaza.

In an Instagram post on Friday, October 30, Rachel said she had spent time with Jood and recalled the circumstances surrounding his mother’s death on December 26, 2023.

Jood was two years old at the time. His mother was holding him and shielding him from the blast when she was killed, Rachel said.

The strike left him with a severe open comminuted fracture to his leg. With assistance from the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), he was evacuated for medical treatment, where surgeons were able to save his leg.

Rachel thanked Tareq Hailat, Vivian Khalaf and the PCRF team for helping Jood receive treatment.

She also highlighted the impact of the war on children in Gaza, citing figures of around 44,000 children injured and more than 21,000 killed. She further said that approximately 56,000 children had lost one or both parents.

Describing her meeting with Jood as a gift, Rachel said she was grateful for the opportunity to spend time with him and praised the young boy.

Since October 7, 2023, the Gaza war has taken a devastating toll on children, with thousands killed or injured and many more losing one or both parents
