Hyderabad to see thunderstorms again, but milder than Friday

Hyderabad and several districts in West and Central Telangana are likely to see scattered thunderstorms from afternoon to night on Saturday, October 31, a day after heavy rain flooded roads and snarled traffic in the city, according to weather enthusiast T Balaji.

Balaji, who posts forecasts as Telangana Weatherman, said the spell in Hyderabad will be isolated to scattered in nature and will not be as severe as on Friday. He said the rain would be less intense because the previous day’s storms had drained much of the convective energy in the atmosphere.

Thunderstorms are expected in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Rangareddy, Siddipet, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Nagarkurnool and Yadadri. The rest of the state will receive isolated rain, he said.

On Friday evening, heavy rain lashed Hyderabad, leaving several stretches waterlogged. Siasat.com reported that waterlogging at Pillar No 117 on the Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao (PVNR) Expressway slowed traffic, with Monsoon Emergency Teams deployed at the spot. Vehicles also moved slowly near Tippu Khan Bridge and Bapu Ghat towards Langar Houz, while Hyderabad Traffic Police asked commuters to avoid parts of Banjara Hills because of flooding. A Zepto delivery rider was rescued from a nala during the downpour.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police had also warned of moderate to heavy rain with intense thunderstorms over Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Golconda, Charminar, Chandrayangutta and Rajendranagar. Residents were advised against unnecessary travel.

Balaji has also forecast active rain across Telangana over the next six to seven days. He expects moderate to heavy rain in East Telangana between November 2 and 4, while the rest of the state is likely to get light to moderate showers.
