Hyderabad: Ramagundam Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha conducted surprise inspections in Vaddera Colony and Vikas Nagar under Mancherial police station limits late on Friday night, October 30, and counselled youths previously booked in cases related to ganja consumption and supply.

The commissioner personally visited the houses of the youths to assess their activities and advise them against drug abuse. He explained the health, family and social consequences of ganja consumption and urged them to stay away from narcotic substances and refrain from encouraging others to use them.

Jha said ganja consumption would primarily harm the users themselves, affecting their health, family reputation and future. He cautioned youths against supplying ganja for small monetary gains at the cost of ruining the lives of others.

Those bringing ganja from other areas and distributing it among youngsters would be identified and dealt with strictly under the law, he warned.

The commissioner said the police would counsel first-time offenders to bring about a change in their behaviour and extend de-addiction support to those requiring assistance. However, strict action would be taken against those promoting drug addiction and supplying ganja to youths.

He also pointed out that public nuisance, quarrels and indecent behaviour under the influence of ganja create fear among residents and adversely affect children.

Assuring support from the police department in helping youngsters build a better future, he said assistance would be extended in areas such as employment, skill development and de-addiction.

Police officials were asked to maintain constant surveillance over ganja consumption and supply, identify the sources of its distribution across Mancherial and take preventive measures to curb the menace
