Hyderabad: A 52-year-old actress filed a complaint with the Jubilee Hills Police on October 27, after facing online abuse for her participation in a reality show.

The complainant, Sri Devi, alleged that a fellow contestant and his followers were posting derogatory remarks and abusive content against her on social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and  X.

“Such online activities have caused me considerable mental distress and humiliation. They intend to damage my reputation and dignity in public,” Sri Devi said in her complaint.

She urged the police to take action against the accused and to protect her dignity.

Speaking to Siasat.com, the Jubilee Hills Police confirmed that a complaint has been filed and refused to share details, stating that the matter is under investigation.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with acts intended to insult a woman’s modesty, and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

The police will write to the above-mentioned social media platforms for the account details of users posting the derogatory content.
