Srinagar- Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Kashmir Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir on Saturday dismissed reports of growing dissent within the party following the recent cabinet expansion, asserting that the party’s unity and leadership remained intact.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Mir said the meeting of some NC legislators was a routine get-together ahead of the Durbar Move and had been unnecessarily portrayed as an indication of rebellion within the party.
He said some party members had expressed concerns following the cabinet expansion, adding that expressing opinions was their democratic right and there was no restriction on dissent within the organisation.
Mir said several legislators had received phone calls inviting them to the gathering, where they discussed various issues, including the advantages and disadvantages of the recent cabinet expansion.
“There was no media presence inside the meeting. However, when the legislators came out, the matter was blown out of proportion, with some claiming that 17 members were involved,” he said, as per news agency KNO.
Dismissing reports about 17 legislators coming together against the party leadership, Mir termed such claims “false and fabricated”.
He said the gathering was being unnecessarily linked to internal rebellion and there was no threat to the party’s unity.
On reports of dissatisfaction among some legislators over the cabinet expansion, Mir said differences of opinion were natural in any political organisation and should not be interpreted as a sign of disunity.
Drawing an analogy with a family, he said disagreements could arise when one member received preference over another, but that did not mean others would abandon the family.
“Even within a family, differences arise when one member is given preference over another. But that does not mean anyone will abandon the family. Similarly, disappointment does not mean legislators will leave the party or its leadership,” he said.
Reiterating that the National Conference remained united, Mir said attempts to create divisions within the party would not succeed.
He maintained that differences of opinion among legislators would not undermine the party’s organisational unity or its leadership.
