Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, two engineering students died of electrocution after coming into contact with live electric wires installed around an agricultural field in Moinabad mandal of Rangareddy district in the early hours of Saturday.

The victims were identified as Moksha Sai Charan (20), a resident of Attapur, and Yashwanth (20), a resident of Balkampet. Both were third-year students of KG Reddy Engineering College.

According to the police, a group of students had gone to an isolated place near the college after attending a campus event and were allegedly consuming liquor in an open area.

“On spotting the lights of a passing police patrolling vehicle, the students panicked and ran in different directions. In their bid to escape, Charan and Yashwanth ran towards a nearby agricultural field, where they came into contact with live electric wires and collapsed,” said Chevella DCP Yogesh Gautam.

The incident occurred around 2 am on Saturday. When the two students went missing, their friends alerted local people, who launched a search for them. The bodies were eventually found in an agricultural field belonging to a local farmer near Peddamangalaram village.

“The farmer had installed an electric fence around the field to prevent wild boars from entering and damaging the crops. A case has been registered against him,” said a police official of Moinabad police station.

The bodies were shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem examination. On learning about the incident, the students’ friends and relatives gathered at the mortuary, where they were seen consoling the bereaved family members.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the college, with two young students losing their lives in the tragic incident.
