Hyderabad: Panic gripped residents of Panchalingal village in Marpally mandal of Vikarabad district after a crocodile was spotted in a local stream, triggering concern among villagers.

The crocodile was noticed by some villagers in the stream, following which the news spread quickly across the village. With the sighting causing alarm, residents, particularly those living close to the waterbody, were advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing near the stream.

Forest officials were alerted and reached the spot to take steps to capture the reptile. After making efforts, the officials managed to catch the crocodile, bringing relief to the villagers.

Officials suspect that the crocodile might have moved out of its usual habitat following the recent heavy rains, which led to a rise in water levels and increased flow in local streams. The possibility of the reptile being carried downstream or moving into the village-side waterbody is also being examined.

The sighting has once again highlighted the need for caution around streams, ponds and other waterbodies in the district, particularly after heavy rainfall. Residents have been advised not to approach crocodiles or attempt to catch them on their own and to immediately alert the Forest Department if they spot any wildlife.
