Amaravati, Nov 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a cyclone alert for Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts as the deep depression in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm.

The cyclone, which has been given the name ‘Murasu’, is likely to intensify into a severe cyclone and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 2-3.

Cyclonic Storm Murasu Intensifies Over Bay

The IMD said in a bulletin on Sunday afternoon that a deep depression intensified into cyclonic storm ‘Murasu’ over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.

VIDEO | Andhra Pradesh: IMD scientist Bharathi Savabi warns of cyclonic storm and extremely heavy rainfall in the state and says, "The well-marked low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal, the adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the adjoining Andaman Sea now lies as a depression over the same region... It is likely to further concentrate into a deep depression in the subsequent 12 hours, around midnight today and then further intensify into a cyclonic storm by forenoon tomorrow. Under the influence of this system, we are expecting extremely heavy rainfall on November 2nd over three districts of Krishna, Guntur, and Bapatla. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea from November 2 to 4 because we are expecting squally winds gusting up to 100 km/h on November 2 and 3, after which they are likely to decrease."(Full video available on PTI Videos - https://t.co/bIyFWTfmBd)
