Cyclone Fury: Murasu Hits Andhra Coast, Leaves Widespread Damage Behind

Image: ABP Live

Cyclone Murasu has reportedly made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing powerful winds, heavy rainfall and widespread damage. According to the report, the cyclone reached the coastal region near Ongole and Kothapatnam at around 2:30–3 AM, making it the second cyclone to affect Andhra Pradesh within a week after Cyclone Arnab. The India Meteorological Department had forecast wind speeds of 100–110 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph. However, ABP News reporter Pinky Rajpurohit reported that winds in Kothapatnam reached around 130 kmph during the landfall. Visuals from Ongole, Bapatla and nearby coastal areas showed uprooted trees, fallen electricity poles, damaged buildings and shattered glass panels. Heavy rain and strong winds continued even after the cyclone made landfall, with authorities describing the next few hours as crucial. The sea also witnessed high waves, while Chennai in neighbouring Tamil Nadu experienced rough sea conditions. The repeated cyclone activity has increased concerns for residents along the Andhra coast as rescue and damage assessments remain important priorities.
