Sangareddy: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has moved up 19 places in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027, reaching 251st position from 270th in the previous edition. The rise marks another step in the institute’s recent progress in the regional rankings. IITH’s performance was particularly strong in research productivity and faculty qualifications. The institute also improved its standing among academics and employers.

The share of institutions surpassed by IITH increased from 82.5 per cent to 85.5 per cent in the latest edition. The rankings offer one measure of the work underway at IITH to strengthen its research and teaching ecosystem. The institute has been placing emphasis on technology-led education, deep-tech research and innovation, while encouraging faculty and students to develop ideas into intellectual property and practical solutions. Its broader research activity spans emerging technologies and interdisciplinary areas, with innovation supported across the campus community.

Director of IITH Prof BS Murty said the improvement reflected the sustained work of faculty, students, researchers and staff. At IITH, he said, they were building an environment where strong fundamentals in education and research connect with technology, deep-tech innovation and real-world problem-solving. “We will continue to encourage our students and faculty to pursue ambitious ideas and translate them into meaningful contributions,” he said.

The QS Asia University Rankings assess institutions through indicators including academic and employer reputation, research productivity and impact, faculty resources and international engagement. IITH’s 2027 results show gains in research productivity, faculty qualifications and reputation, contributing to its improved overall position.
