[Watch] Gurnoor Brar stuns Tom Latham with phenomenal one-handed catch off his own bowling in 1st ODI

A moment of sharp reflexes from Gurnoor Brar lit up the opening match of India's five-match ODI series against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4, 2026. The 26-year-old right-arm seamer completed a stunning one-handed return catch off his own bowling to send back Tom Latham, leaving the hosts four wickets down inside 17 overs.
How the Latham dismissal unfolded
Sony Sports Network shared the clip on X, and it quickly drew attention for the sheer speed of Brar's reaction. Brar had bowled a fuller delivery angling across Latham, who attempted to close the face of his bat and punch the ball through the leg side. A leading edge sent the ball back sharply towards the bowler, and with the extra pace on the delivery turning the bat, the ball flew in the direction of Brar just as he was moving forward in his follow-through.

The ball had already passed Brar when he thrust out his left hand and completed the grab. Latham, batting at number five for New Zealand, departed for just three runs off 11 deliveries. The dismissal came on the final ball of the 17th over, giving Brar his second wicket of the innings.
Brar's double strike puts New Zealand under pressure
Brar had been introduced last among India's four-seamer attack, which also included Arshdeep Singh, Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj. His first over cost 11 runs, yet captain Shubman Gill kept faith in the tall speedster. That backing paid off when Brar removed Tim Seifert in his second over. The Latham caught-and-bowled followed in the very next over the youngster bowled.

Earlier in the day, it was Shubman Gill who won the toss and opted to field first in overcast conditions. The start of the match had been delayed due to a drizzle. However, once the game started, the Indian bowling attack was all over the Black Caps. The home side lost their seventh wicket in the 29th over with only 115 runs on the board.
