Iran Prepares Citizens for Nuclear Nightmare

Tehran- Iranian state television has begun airing civil-defence instructions on surviving a nuclear explosion and radioactive fallout, amid growing fears of a possible US nuclear strike. The broadcasts come as mounting setbacks for Donald Trump fuel concerns over increasingly desperate and reckless military options.

The televised advisory outlines five key precautions for the public, covering immediate protective action during an explosion, finding appropriate shelter, removing radioactive particles from the body and following official instructions before attempting to evacuate.

The broadcasts come against the backdrop of extraordinary claims by American commentator Tucker Carlson that US President Donald Trump is facing pressure to consider using a nuclear weapon against Pickax Mountain, a deeply buried Iranian nuclear facility near Natanz.

Carlson has alleged that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing Washington to destroy the facility, arguing that its underground depth could make it difficult to neutralise using conventional bunker-busting weapons.

However, the claims have not been independently established and do not constitute evidence that the Trump administration has decided upon, or formally adopted, a nuclear strike plan against Iran.

The Iranian broadcasts nevertheless reflect the seriousness of the security concerns surrounding the country’s nuclear infrastructure as diplomatic communications between Washington and Tehran continue.

According to the advisory, the first priority in the event of a nuclear explosion is to avoid exposure to the intense flash and the ensuing blast wave. Citizens have been instructed not to look directly at the explosion but to immediately seek cover behind a solid barrier, lie face down and protect their heads and faces until the blast wave passes.

Once the immediate danger has subsided, people should enter the nearest available building and move away from windows and exterior walls. The advisory cautions against remaining outdoors to observe or photograph the aftermath, while warning that vehicles do not provide adequate protection against radiation.

The instructions place particular emphasis on preventing radioactive contamination. People who may have been exposed to radioactive dust have been advised to wash exposed skin with lukewarm water and soap and use ordinary shampoo without conditioner. Those unable to shower should clean their faces, hands and other exposed areas with water or wet wipes.

Stay Indoors, Avoid Contaminated Food And Water

The third major component of the advisory concerns protection from radioactive fallout, which can expose people to harmful radiation even after the initial explosion.

Citizens have been advised to remain inside a suitable shelter for at least 24 hours following a nuclear explosion, unless authorities instruct them to move or the building becomes unsafe. Bottled water and packaged food have been recommended as precautionary supplies during this period.

The advisory also warns that the passage of 24 hours does not automatically mean that the surrounding area is safe. People should not venture outdoors or attempt to evacuate without first receiving instructions from official emergency broadcasts.

In case of a fire or indications that a building may collapse, residents have been advised to move to a safer shelter rather than remain in immediate danger.

Iran’s Nuclear Debate Amid Escalating Tensions

The broadcasts come as Iran faces renewed debate over its nuclear policy and the possibility of another military confrontation.

Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei has said that no formal decision has been taken on changing the country’s nuclear doctrine, even as questions about Tehran’s potential response to another war gain prominence.

Meanwhile, Carlson’s assertions about pressure within the Trump administration to consider a nuclear option have added another dimension to an already volatile situation. His claims, however, remain unverified.

The focus on Pickax Mountain is particularly significant because of concerns surrounding the vulnerability of deeply buried nuclear infrastructure to conventional military strikes. The facility’s reported depth has figured in discussions about the limits of conventional bunker-busting capabilities.

There has been no established confirmation that Washington is considering a nuclear strike against the site.

For now, diplomatic messages continue to pass between Washington and Tehran, leaving open the possibility of a negotiated outcome even as both sides confront the prospect of renewed hostilities.

The decision by Iranian state television to broadcast nuclear emergency instructions has brought the potential consequences of such a conflict into the public domain, offering civilians guidance on how to respond to a scenario that remains hypothetical but carries catastrophic implications.
