The first teaser of the 2027 Volkswagen Virtus facelift reveals revised LED lighting, redesigned bumpers and GT details ahead of official launch

Volkswagen has been testing the Virtus facelift on Indian roads for months and its first official preview now reveals the revised exterior. The teaser shows a blue GT model and it comes ahead of the first substantial design revision since the sedan debuted in India in 2022. VW has also listed the New Virtus on its Indian website and we expect it to launch in the coming weeks.

The front end gets an angular bumper featuring a wide lower air intake and geometric mesh detailing. Sculpted sections surround the outer corners where horizontal inserts replace the earlier fog-lamp recesses. The slim headlamp housings contain revised LED daytime running light signatures while a narrow grille separates them. The central Volkswagen badge and a red GT emblem sit above the lower intake.

The existing Virtus uses two turbo petrol engines: a 1.0-litre TSI generating 115 PS and 178 Nm, and a 1.5-litre TSI pushing out 150 PS and 250 Nm. Both are expected to carry over. The smaller engine could receive an eight-speed torque converter automatic instead of its current six-speed unit. Skoda has already introduced that transmission on the facelifted Slavia. The 1.5 TSI is expected to retain its seven-speed DSG automatic.

The rear receives split LED tail lamps featuring thin horizontal lighting elements that extend onto the boot lid. A dark trim section visually links the two lamp assemblies but the illuminated sections are separate. The boot lid also gets a small lip spoiler, a central Volkswagen emblem and GT lettering towards the right. Lower down, the bumper has dark inserts and patterned surfaces while parking sensors are visible in the preview.

The cabin is absent from the teaser. The Virtus already boast a 10.1-inch touchscreen, an 8-inch digital instrument display, ventilated front seats and wireless smartphone connectivity. We expect the facelift to receive a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a 360-degree camera similar to the updated Slavia.

The overall profile retains the long bonnet, rising beltline and gently sloping roof of the existing car. The blue GT model wears black mirror caps and dark alloy wheels featuring angular spokes. A GT badge is also visible near the front wheel arch. In addition, the overhead teaser frame shows a single-pane sunroof and shark fin antenna.

The Virtus shares the India-specific MQB A0 IN architecture and turbo petrol engine range with the Skoda Slavia. The revised Slavia went on sale in October 2026 and now offers the eight-speed automatic, a 360-degree camera and a larger digital driver display. Volkswagen could take a similar route for the Virtus which competes against the Slavia, Hyundai Verna and Honda City.
