Anti-Islamic writing on a grave sparks tension in Chikkamagaluru

Chikkamagaluru: Tension gripped Karnataka’s Chikkamagaluru district after a grave belonging to Rizwan, a follower of Pakistan-origin religious preacher Riyaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi, was defaced with anti-Kalma writings. A green cloth placed over the grave has also become a point of contention.
Rizwan died last year and was buried at the cemetery in Indavara despite objections from some locals over his association with Gohar Shahi. After a year, his family decided to place a green cloth over the grave and construct a tomb.
They found that the Kalma inscription was allegedly replaced with objectionable writings opposing Islam. The incident has triggered anger among sections of the Muslim community, with local leaders demanding immediate removal of the disputed writings and the green cloth.
Gohar Shahi is a controversial religious figure whose teachings and followers have faced opposition from several sections of the Muslim community. The objections had surfaced even when Rizwan was buried last year.
The latest development has led to a heated exchange between Rizwan’s brother Barkat and community leaders. Members of the community have submitted a complaint to Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama, seeking intervention and action.
Police are being urged to address the sensitive issue and prevent further escalation of tensions.
