Hyderabad: In view of the Diwali festival, the South Central Railway (SCR) has issued a travel advisory urging passengers not to carry firecrackers, explosives, inflammable liquids or other hazardous materials on trains or railway premises.

SCR has intensified inspections and surveillance at railway stations and on trains to prevent the transportation of prohibited items, which pose a serious threat to passenger safety and railway property.

Officials said carrying prohibited materials is a punishable offence under Section 164 of the Railways Act, 1989, attracting a fine of up to Rs 1,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both.

Passengers have been urged to cooperate with railway staff and follow safety regulations.

SCR appealed to passengers to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure safe and hassle-free travel during the festive season.

Passengers have been asked to immediately report any suspicious, explosive or inflammable materials to railway officials through the Railway Security Helpline 139 or the Rail Madad portal.
