Gurugram: Gurugram police have arrested two people, including a truck driver, for allegedly stealing iPhones from a transport vehicle, police said on Friday.

A canter truck allegedly used in the crime, 32 stolen iPhones and a pair of pliers were recovered from their possession, police said.

On October 29, a complaint was filed at the Farrukhnagar police station stating that 206 cartons of goods had been dispatched from Farrukhnagar to Chaudwar in Cuttack, Odisha, in a sealed vehicle.

Upon arrival at the destination, the vehicle’s seal was found intact. However, an inspection of the consignment revealed that the mobile phones were missing from 32 cartons. Only the empty boxes and packaging remained, according to the complaint.

The accused allegedly stole mobile phones worth approximately Rs 45 lakh. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Farrukhnagar police station.

During the investigation, police arrested two suspects, identified as Amit Pandey, 30, and Kartikeya Srivastava, 32. Pandey was arrested in Faridabad on November 2, while Srivastava was apprehended in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on November 5.

Pandey, the truck driver, was produced in court and remanded to four days of police custody for further interrogation, while his accomplice was sent to judicial custody.

“During police interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had stolen the mobile phones kept in 32 cartons from the sealed transport vehicle while the consignment was in transit. To avoid detection, they deliberately left the empty boxes and packaging inside the vehicle. We are questioning the accused,” a senior police officer said.
