Sameer beaten to death for speaking to Hindu girl in Maharashtra

Mumbai: A Muslim teenager was allegedly beaten to death in Maharashtra’s Sharashiv district on Tuesday, November 4, on suspicion of harassing a Hindu girl.
Eighteen-year-old Sameer Jabbar Patel was a B Com student at Tuljabhawani Mahavidyalaya Tuljapur college and first came under the radar of accused Santosh Kadam three months ago.
Deceased accused of stalking, harassing girl
Kadam, a former Maharashtra corporator and Tuljapur municipal council president, had accused Sameer of stalking and harassing his niece. The accused allegedly called the deceased and his family to his house, warning them to stay away from the girl. He reportedly assaulted Sameer and let them go with a warning.
Following the meeting, the teenager stopped going to college and took up work at a bakery, where he continued preparing for his exams. According to the first information report (FIR) filed by the family, on November 3, he went to pick up his uncle. However, within hours, his family was informed that he was “taken” to Kadam’s house.
Sameer’s mother, Ansar, said that after she arrived, Kadam and his brother-in-law, Sanjay Vilas Jadhav, assaulted her son and abused and threatened her. The former corporator called other men to his house and later whisked him and his cousin Arbaz Sayyed away with them.
Accused ‘detains’ family for hours, ‘assaults’ Patel
The FIR named Pranav Devkate for snatching Ansar’s mobile phone and detaining the family for hours. While they left at around 11:30 pm, the deceased was subjected to brutal assault. The young man was reportedly hit with bamboo and belts until he died, his family alleged.
“He was my only son and the accused took him away in front of us,” Ansar said. “They killed him at another place and dumped his body in the parking area.”
Body found abandoned at a parking lot
The family found him abandoned in a parking area and rushed him to a government hospital, where he was declared dead. His cousin Sayyed was also assaulted and sustained serious injuries.
A video of the assault shows a group of men surrounding Sameer and hitting him with sticks and lathis. Another clip shows Sayyed on a hospital bed with visible injury marks.
Both Kadam and his brother-in-law Vilas were arrested on Friday, November 6, and were remanded to seven-day police custody.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) corporator Azhar Mujawar submitting a complaint calling for strict action against the accused.
