Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) imposed a penalty of Rs. 20,000 on the premises used by Akshayakalpa Farms and Foods Private Limited in Jubilee Hills for using drinking water to clean floors. The sewerage connection was also temporarily disconnected.

Officials detected the misuse at the premises where the water connection was registered in the name of Mahammad Zarina Begum, a press release said.

HMWSSB has intensified measures to prevent wastage and misuse of drinking water amid possible supply challenges during the coming summer. Residents were advised to reserve drinking water for essential needs, including drinking and cooking.

The water board said it should not be used for cleaning floors or vehicles, or for gardening and construction work. It urged people to use treated water from sewage treatment plants for such purposes wherever possible.

HMWSSB said inspections would continue across the city and warned of action against violators. Residents can report wastage or misuse by sending location details, photographs or videos to the WhatsApp number 99499 30003, the press release added.
