Matiks raises $10M in pre-Series A round led by General Catalyst

Bengaluru-based social gaming platform Matiks has raised $10 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by General Catalyst. The round also saw participation from entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners, and Untitled Ventures.
According to a statement by the company, the fresh capital will be used to expand internationally, develop new games and social experiences, and launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered game creation platform that will enable users to build and publish games without writing code.
Founded in 2024, Matiks develops games centred on mathematics, memory, logic and puzzles, combining competitive gameplay with social features.
In September 2026, 2.2 million people played 48 million games on the platform. Its daily active users have more than doubled since June to over 300,000, with early engagement emerging in markets including Japan, the US and South Korea, the compamy said.
“Over the last decade, we have made it incredibly easy to consume content but have done far less to make using our brains equally entertaining. We started Matiks with a simple belief: using your brain can be just as fun and addictive as any other form of entertainment," said Sudhanshu Bhatia, co-founder and chief executive officer of Matiks.
"Our ambition is to make mind sports as culturally relevant as physical sports and esports - giving mental athletes, puzzlers, and competitive players the visibility, communities, and recognition they deserve. With AI, we want anyone, anywhere in the world, to create a brain game that millions can play. We are not trying to get people off their phones; we are trying to give them something better to do on them,” he added.
The company said users who complete a seven-day streak show 62% retention one month later, while some early cohorts have retained 32% of users at week 52. Its recently launched single-player puzzle format, SNAC, has also driven longer engagement, with sessions that include the format running approximately three times longer.
Rahul Humayan, partner at General Catalyst, said the platform was addressing demand for alternatives to conventional digital content.
"Negative content is consuming a growing share of our screen time, and Matiks is building the alternative: a social platform for brain games where people challenge friends, learn from one another and, soon, use AI to create games of their own. Sudhanshu, Sushant and Mohan have built one of the most engaged communities we have seen in consumer, from everyday players to world champions, and they are now taking it global. We are proud to partner with them as they make brain games a category of their own," he said.
Matiks will initially prioritise expansion in the US before entering other tier-one markets. It also plans to increase investments in engineering, AI, product, design, game development and growth, alongside scaling creator partnerships and global distribution.
The company plans to develop an AI-powered game creation engine that will allow users to create, publish and share brain games across multiple formats. It expects user-generated content to increase the variety of games available on the platform.
