The counting process for the Maharashtra MLC elections has entered a crucial phase, with ballot paper bundling completed at some centres and the counting of first-preference votes beginning in Nagpur. Maharashtra has five seats in this election, for which polling was held on October 23. According to the latest updates, officials have completed the ballot bundling process in some locations, while preparations are continuing at other counting centres. The first election trends are expected to emerge after 4 pm, although the timing may vary across locations depending on the progress of the counting process. In Amravati, the ballot paper bundles have reportedly been prepared, and counting is expected to begin shortly. Meanwhile, bundling work was still underway in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The counting process began at 8 am, and officials are expected to take time to complete the exercise, given the number of candidates and ballots involved. A total of 182 candidates are contesting across the five seats, with more than 10,000 votes cast, according to the information shared in the report. The key political contest is between the ruling Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi. Attention is particularly focused on Pune’s Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies, where rebel candidates have added an extra dimension to the contest and could affect the alliance’s electoral calculations. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the contest between Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party and Sharad Pawar’s faction is also being closely watched. The BJP is reportedly confident about its prospects in Nagpur. As counting progresses across Maharashtra, the emerging trends will provide a clearer picture of which alliance is gaining an advantage in the five constituencies.
